YANGON — The world famous Technology, Entertainment, Design conference will be independently staged in Myanmar again this year, kicking off at Yangon’s Rose Garden Hotel on May 21.
Following on from last year’s conference at the Inya Lake Hotel, the 2017 TEDx Yangon program will revolve around the theme of “tapestry” and include a roster of speakers on urban renewal, gender equality, education, art and media.
“We wanted to bring TEDx to Myanmar to give a platform where positive ideas can be shared and to expose our community to these ideas,” said Ma Thiri Thant Mon, the principal organiser of the conference.
She added that the conference was an ideal way of showcasing ideas about the country that transcended the “black and white” picture of Myanmar that took root during the junta era.

“We, will discuss many ideas worth sharing at the event, which can be helpful for the country to move forward,” she said.
Around 600 tickets will be available for the event at a cost of K135,000, to go on sale April 1. A limited round of concession tickets will be available to students.
Thiri Thant Mon said the conference is still seeking to recruit volunteers fluent in both English and Myanmar to provide translation services for the audience.
