Telenor reaches 200 million subscribers worldwide

Norwegian telecoms operator Telenor on Thursday announced it has exceeded 200 million mobile subscribers worldwide as of December 2015.

Telenor group is present in 13 markets, of which six are in Asia, including Myanmar. The Group’s Asian markets generated more than 50 percent of its revenues as of 3rd quarter, 2015.

Telenor and Ooredoo became the first international telecommunication companies to operate in Myanmar when they were awarded licences to operate by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology in June 2013.

“Many in Telenor can remember reaching one million subscribers – a once-historic milestone,” said Sigve Brekke, president and CEO of Telenor Group. “Today, our vision goes beyond putting a phone in every hand. We envision an internet for all, and with it all the opportunities that a digital life brings,” he said.

In the first two years of operations, Telenor has outperformed Ooredoo, counting 11.8 million subscribers as of end of October, compared to the Qatari company’s 4.8 million.
