NAY PYI TAW — State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has launched a five-year education plan aimed at improving the job prospects of graduates and instilling them with a lifelong passion for learning.
She unveiled the National Education Strategic Plan at a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday morning.
“We have to start the process of change with the education sector. The National Education Strategic Plan is very much needed, but we all have to consider what we need to do to make it a success,” she said at the launch.
The plan has been drafted in collaboration with education development partners including the United Nations and international donors.

The UN Children’s Fund representative to Myanmar Mr Bertrand Bainvel said the plan is based on the fundamental principle that everyone has the right to education, regardless of race, sex, citizenship and socioeconomic status, and ability.
“This is a historic moment for the country, an affirmation of what Education in Myanmar should always have been – a key to the country’s development, social cohesion, peace and national unity,” he said.
The plan is the culmination of a process initiated in 2012 through the comprehensive education sector review (CESR).
