YANGON — A fire broke out early Tuesday in the high-rise Diamond Inya Palace construction project, putting a temporary halt to work on Yangon’s tallest condominium at 36 storeys.
The fire started on the 22th floor at about 3am, with firefighters bringing it under control by 6:50am, the Myanmar Fire Services Department said. The department speculated that the fire was started by an accident but they could not provide details.
City officials could not say whether construction on the building would be allowed to continue. They will decide the project’s future after an investigation into the incident has been conducted.
The building is being developed by the privately-owned Mandalay Golden Wings Company. Located at the corner of Parami Road and U Tun Nyein streets, next to of Yangon’s landmark Inya Lake, the condominium is one of several luxury projects under construction in Myanmar’s commercial capital.
