YANGON — Small tremors continued to shake the northern outskirts of Yangon Region Monday morning, following a quake the previous evening that shook buildings downtown.
Regional lawmaker U Hla Min Soe (NLD, Taikkyi-2), confirmed that aftershocks were felt in his constituency shortly after 10am.
At 8:50pm on Sunday evening, a shallow 5.1 magnitude earthquake centred on Taikkyi lasting close to a minute was felt across the commercial capital, followed by at least one smaller tremor later in the evening.
Hla Min Soe said around 11 buildings had been damaged or destroyed in Taikkyi, with a family of five taken to hospital with minor injuries after a building collapsed.

Some employees at a local garment factory were injured after 400 workers evacuated the building in a panic, he said.
“Everything has gone back to normal,” he said. “The students are sitting their exams and stores are selling things.”
The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement has sent officers to assist in clean-up efforts in Taikkyi.
An officer from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology told Frontier that Monday’s aftershock was too small to be detected by his office’s monitoring instruments, and likely measured under 3 on the Richter scale.
