Man under arrest over petrol bomb incident at Daw Suu’s Yangon home

Police say a man arrested last week for throwing a petrol bomb into the Yangon lakeside compound of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has “mental health problems,” reports AFP.

The suspect, named as U Win Naing, 48, was arrested early on February 2, a day after a small petrol bomb was lobbed into the compound at 54 University Avenue, Yangon police said on in a post on their official Facebook page.

“He confessed that he took a bottle filled with petrol…and threw it into the compound,” the post said.

Police said they believed that Win Naing, a security guard for a construction company, had “mental health problems”.

He told police he threw the bomb because he had been “cursed by magic”, the Facebook post said.

Aung San Suu Kyi, who was in Nay Pyi Taw when the attack occurred, has not commented on the incident.
