DOING good through dance: that’s the aim of the organisers of Vienna Ball Yangon, which will bring together dancers from Austria and Myanmar in early March.
The event, organised by the Austrian embassy and Rotary Club of Yangon, will raise money for charity while allowing guests to show off their ballroom moves.
It will also seek to promote friendship and cultural links between the two countries, ambassador Mr Enno Drofenik said on Thursday.
He explained that the ball is traditionally held in Austria’s winter to lift the gloom from the cold and dark weather.
“We want to bring the Vienna ballroom dance’s feeling here to Yangon,” he said.

Organisers have invited a range of high-ranking guests to the March 4 event at Novotel Hotel, including President U Htin Kyaw, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein.
Vienna’s deputy mayor will also fly in from Austria for the ball, Drofenik said.
Tickets are US$150. Proceeds will be used to support water supply projects in Ayeyarwady Region’s Thabaung Township.
