NAY PYI TAW – Myanmar’s ruling party on Wednesday denied previous reports that they had dismissed House Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann from their ranks.
Union Solidarity and Development Party public relations chief U Kyaw Thura denied allegations that Thura U Shwe Mann, who lost his post as chairman of the party in August, had been removed from the ruling party in a press conference in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital, Wednesday afternoon.
“All senior ministers were away for the November 8 election, so no meeting of any kind was held at USDP headquarters,” U Kyaw Thura told the press, calling the dismissal report, that as making the rounds Wednesday morning, a “rumour.”
Thura U Shwe Mann has expressed his eagerness to become Myanmar’s next president after the November 8 polls.
