In February, residents of a village close to Dawei in Tanintharyi Region, grew concerned after an estimated 90 percent of villagers fell ill with a phantom disease.
Health practitioners working in the village say they have identified the disease as “elephant flu” and that most residents have since recovered, but there is still concern that it could spread.
This week, in partnership with Dawei Watch, Doh Athan meets local villagers who say that government health workers have not done enough to combat the disease.
